Fix CSCC Tech Problems, Please!

 

I was asked if there was one thing I could change about Columbia State Community College, what would it be? Without pause, tech issues popped into my mind. You see, whenever I’ve gone into the Lewisburg Campus of CSCC I would find myself being lead with the wonderful staff there, from the computer lab to computer lab at some point in my visit. For some reason, system upgrades are not made, printer access problems, and in order to use an on-site laptop, you will first need to sort through them to find one with a compatible browser for your needs.

This has burned hours of my time on campus. The time that should have been spent working on school work or meeting with the lovely Mrs. Dee Wolters, Lewisburg campus tutor to further my work in progress.

Don’t get me wrong. The Lewisburg Campus of CSCC has not one person on staff who wouldn’t break their back to help you. Unfortunately, we are not afforded the Tech Department some of the other campuses have.

I purpose Columbia Campus send one of their tech support staff members to the Lewisburg Campus and square away all that has to do with technology. Lewisburg staff can only improvise so much.

Facebook: Still Leading

If I had to choose one platform to market my business on, it would be Facebook. With features such as live feed, event page capabilities, and sending/receiving funds, Facebook has the upper hand in the social media arena.

Twitter wouldn’t serve the needs of marketing with its 44 character restriction. Instagram lacks the simple re-post feature that I believe promotes word of mouth traveling fast such as with Facebook. Moreover, Snapchat is limited in that it has been found difficult to use for the older crowd,  and posts automatically delete after 24 hours.

Facebook will be around for years to come and is only growing and adapting to the times and technology which is why it would be my first choice of social platform.

Libraries are Here to Stay

I overheard somebody says the other day that libraries are going to be obsolete in our near future. They said because of “…just google it..”. Their point was that since the ease of the internet, libraries are becoming irrelevant.

Libraries have adapted with the times of technology and are actually thriving. Implementing programs such as incorporating mobile apps. The recent years of the Pokemon craze proved to provide my local library with a useful strategy to draw in people.

Also, libraries have partnered up with different parent-child calendar reading programs, school reading programs, and neighborhood initiatives in low-income areas. Our library posts in the newspaper and housing authority of the local low-income housing projects. They have seen the light and the light is diversify. The fact that they offer free wifi doesn’t hurt either.

Face-to-Face is Best

If you are sharing bad news with one individual, it is best to do it face-to-face. Doing builds goodwill but will allow you to receive feedback from the recipient. The feedback

that not only comes in statements, but also via body language, the tone of voice, and facial expressions. Goodwill is an important foundation for a company. It establishes credibility and makes you more likely to have loyal customers. As for feedback, we all know this is the fastest, most direct way to receive information that can vastly improve your company or the situation.

Authority Rules Persuasion

Authority is a real world example of how persuasion works. Start with Nike Jordans, Nike sells their Air Jordans based off of the name (authority) and the hang time a man could achieve before making a three-point shot,  Micheal Jordan. Jordan hasn’t played professional basketball since 2003, but Jordan shoes only continue to rise in price, demand, and popularity.

Thank You Notes After Job Interviews

 

  A thank-you note or email is a way to show genuine appreciation for somebody’s time and efforts and make that person feel good for those efforts. I would use a hand written note for the medium. Handwritten thank-you notes would make the best impression and in the competitive work field today, you’ve got to stand out in the crowd. Writing a thank-you note for the job interview not only shows genuine appreciation but also helps them remember you, giving you better odds of getting the job.

I would avoid emails in this situation. You want a face to go with your name and whose to say if the hiring manager will see an email in time or at all. Stick with a handwritten thank-you note, it will make the most effective impact towards your goal.

How to Track Changes in Word Document 2016

Track change is an effect tool to allow others to view and comment on your documents, simultaneously editing within a group.

1. Open the document that you want to revise.
2. On the Review Tab, in the Tracking group, click the Track Changes button.
3. Click the drop-down box next toTrack Changes, select All Markup.
4. Click New Comment to add comments to selected text.
5. Delete text to remove it from the document.

Social Loafing

Social Loafing is the phenomenon where a person exerts less effort to achieve a goal when working in a group than working alone. Competition is a strategy I have found to increase effort in the work field. Working in food and beverage for more than a decade has taught me much about social loafing. The key to using competition as a motivating strategy is to find what motivates each individual in the group, then use their wants and needs as motivation and a trail to increased job satisfaction.
